리메이크 음악의 달인 Papa Winnie~~

한 흑인가수(토종 흑인은 아님)의 기름진 노랫가락에 넋을 빼았겼다!!

자메이카 출신의 유명한 뮤지션은 여러명 있지만 베네수엘라 혈통은 드물다.

10여년 전 어느날 거리에서 우연히 들었던 "You Are My Sunshine"  그것은 우리가 흔히 듣던

음악의 장르가 아니었다.

즉시 음반판매점에 가서 테이프를 사서 지겹도록 들었다. 한번 몰입하면 끝을 보는 성격도 한 몫을

했다고 여겨진다.

 

파파위니는 1990년대 초반 세계적으로 애창되고 있던 You Are My Sunshine 을 토속 Reggae 리듬으로 멋지게 리메이크하여 전 세계에 이름을 날린 가수이다.

 

Papa Winnie는 첫 아기를 가진 후 아버지가 되었다는 의미에서 친구들이 붙여 준 예명이라고 한다.

카리브 해에 위치한 조그만 섬나라 자메이카의 전통음악인 레게는 4박자의 단순한 형식으로 구성되어 듣기 편하고, 경쾌한 음악이다.

그는 팝레게라는 장르를 새로 개척한 사람으로 평가받고 있다.
